The Stone Roses still sound vital, reassuringly cocky and strangely relevant. Even the staunchest fan may have harboured reservations about their ability to relight the glory days, let alone party like it’s 1989. But, tonight at least, they’ve exceeded all expectations.

Watching the Roses walk on stage was an emotional experience – swelling pride, disbelief, euphoria and excitement all bubbled and boiled as 75,000 cheers greeted them.

The Stone Roses returned to the stage last night in Sweden as they played the Hultsfredsfestivalen. Unusually the band opened their performance with Love Spreads and went on to play a full 14 song set.

In Amsterdam tonight, the Roses didn’t return to the stage to perform their planned encore. With Ian returning to tell the audience that ‘the drummer’s gone home’.
Their performance at the Heineken Music Hall, Amsterdam was their fourth comeback gig following ecstatically received performances in Warrington and Barcelona.
We’ll wait and see how this one pans out before we say anymore.
